Crafting a Retail / Metropolitan Studio of Architecture

MSA collaborated with WARDA, a clothing brand, on designing of their new stores, which are planned in various cities of Pakistan. Peshawar Flagship is the first in this series. Each flagship store is designed keeping in mind the idea that it will serve as a rejuvenating device for the brand. MSA has taken this collaboration as an opportunity to look closely at the retail culture of Pakistan in general and WARDA retail strategies in specific. These explorations helped in developing an overall thematic of the brand, where context becomes the central focus of the aesthetics of the flagships.

Haight / MNMA studio

The intervention happened in 80 square meters of an overlap in a building of 25 floors located in Leblon, Rio de Janeiro. The biggest challenge was dealing with the pillar found literally in the middle of the considerable space. That was the premise of the project, to “embrace” the same volume with a cube made of glass superimposed on a new slab, expanding the possibilities of space.

Tapí, which began operations with a food truck, migrated to the physical store with the challenge of planning the combination of Brazil’s regionalism (north/northeast) with cosmopolitan aspects of a young and sophisticated brand. The client wanted a low-cost project in Rio de Janeiro’s urban scenarios without leaving aside artifice of the origin of its raw material food – tapioca (a starch extracted from cassava root). The research considered colors and textures – from the way food is prepared for the region’s aesthetic traits.
