TLP Apartment / Renato Mendonça Arquitetura

January 9, 2020 Daniel Tapia 0

The project was developed for a single man, extremely sensitive, intellectual, with a positive reading habit. It was his first apartment, and along with that purchase comes a dream… to have an apartment that reflects his own personality. The use of color was his first request. All the study and definition of colors was done based on Abaporu engraving, acquired by the client in one of his travels around the world. Thus we define the use of primary colors in their essence. The second request was for a visually large but privacy-intimate environment. Thus we decided to eliminate all the inner walls of the apartment, including the bathroom wall.

Mansungli Beach, a representative tourist spot in Yeosu that protrudes towards the South Sea in Korea, has a calm and beautiful coastal scenery, facing NamHae between the sea. The site located in Mansungli Beach is surrounded by mountains, sea, and breakwater structures, which inspires the exterior of the exposed concrete, applying the raw and simple image of the land. The external wall of the underground parking lot was finished with rough concrete surface in order to naturally harmonize the building and the sloping terrain. Visitors can admire Mansungli Beach and South Sea from the front yard that is above the parking lot.

The Linear House / Christos Pavlou Architecture

January 9, 2020 Daniel Tapia 0

The project was inspired by the idea of Mediterranean scenery admiration towards the olive grove, vineyards, clear blue sky, breezy south to north orientation and seasonally changes throughout the year. The land and its environment together with the uneven topography of the site are taken as the structural principals in developing the concept of the house. Our proposal enhances the aesthetic character of the countryside and uses our intervention to nature as a backdrop to view the Mediterranean scenery.  We designed a simple, strong silhouette to provide the setting to frame and enjoy the surroundings. What particularly drew our attention was the linearity of the plantation surrounding the plot. It seemed as though nature was calling on us to follow the linearity model of the landscape and be part of its ecosystem.

White House / Marc Flick Architekt BDA + HGA Henning Grahn Architektur + Christian Stock

The “White House“ is part of an architectural ensemble of two residential buildings, located in the “Waldvillenviertel“, a popular suburban district in the city of Mainz. Besides the admissible building density, a sloped roof shape was one of the building requirements on the plot. The layout of the house enables a pleasant usage of the garden and takes care of the existing vegetation with its oaks and pine-trees and regards the existing site topography.

How to integrate education and commerce, which seem to be incompatible functions in one land efficiently?
Presently, in the development of high-density coastal cities in China, excessive development of lands for commerce and office, etc, often occurs. At the same time, a shortage of land for schools and other educational facilities occurs. We try to digest the sizes of complex projects by putting schools and training in them, encourage sharing and improve efficiency by restructuring functions, aiming to make educational spaces more open and diversified.

What if the places had no walls?
What if our home was always open?
What if our city were made only of unimpeded, unrestricted, interconnected open spaces?
What if we did not accept the idea that in order to live together we would have to be trapped behind walls and avoid the danger we believe we live in, the frightening threat of the other?

Building in Travessa Alferes Malheiro / Franca Arquitectura

January 5, 2020 Daniel Tapia 0

The Alferes Malheiro Street starts at Largo Tito Fontes, showing us the central city, step by step, almost in a quiet hypnotizing thriller. The south point draws a skyline with the Trindade’s Tower over it, seeing as if the center of the city lays itself under the tower, forgetting about all the architectural and urban transformations that the city has suffered, where co-exists ruptures and interpretations of the traditional architecture. Architecturally, with the rehabilitation of the facade and the new proposal of volume, it contributes to the consolidation of the character of the street, increasing value on what concerns the height of the buildings on the street and the dominant alignment.

The initial clients’ request for the house to be a chalet has worried us. How to design a house in face of such specific demand, based on a context that is so different from the Brazilian one? Our project’s approach does not seek to transpose images or references, it is always organized by reading contexts: physical, social, cultural, economic, natural. The solution was to scrutinize the meanings, affectivities, and expectations linked to the image of the chalet to build an adequate interpretation of these elements to the future residence’s context.
