December 17, 2019 Daniel Tapia 0

SODA Studio has completed the first phase of the Walker’s Court development, featuring the groundbreaking Boulevard Theatre that has a revolving auditorium at its heart, along with a new restaurant and apartments. The second part of the project will include offices created at the top of the scheme, shops and restaurants at ground level and the rebirth of Madame JoJo’s in the basement. Designed for Soho Estates, Walker’s Court has replaced a series of tired and dilapidated post-war buildings with a bold, revitalized center for entertainment and numerous related uses. Fawn James, the granddaughter of the ‘King of Soho’ Paul Raymond, envisioned a project that would pay tribute to the Raymond Revuebar that originally occupied this site while helping to secure Soho’s future as a center for creativity. The resulting 55,000 sq ft development contains a mix of new and repurposed buildings with the original Revue building overclad with a façade of hundreds of interlocking bricks.

A place for exhibitions, a workplace, a public place as well as one of preservation, the repurposing of the former automobile garage at 79 Rue des Archives now has a double back end. The challenge was to find the best way to host two distinct owners, to highlight and protect them and to create a contemporary place while ensuring the project played its part in preserving the Marais. This is the considerable feat achieved here by the Lobjoy-Bouvier-Boisseau firm.

Stepping Green House / HGAA

Stepping Green House is the idea of a home with a living space arranged with gardens, creating an urban living space close to nature. This is the second house we have done in Ninh Binh, also on the same street compared to the first house. We continue to seek creative ideas about spaces that are close to nature, pursuing the true meaning of living space and architectural form, instead of making French castle architecture that people here are favored.

Layers House / Havkin Architects

December 15, 2019 Daniel Tapia 0

This 450sq.m, three-story house is located in Ramat Hasharon, a small city in the suburbs of Tel Aviv, Israel. It houses a young family with three children and includes the owner’s clinic. It sits on the land in an L-shape and speaks in a language of layers. Upon meeting with new clients, we first talk with them to get to know them, understand their needs, desires and general thoughts about life. One of the first requests of the owner, a sex therapist, and anthropologist was that she doesn’t want anything to be white, as this reminded her of a clinic she used to work in. Throughout the process, we had many random conversations with her about relationships, which led us to the musical “Chicago”. This ended up being a major inspiration for us.

Vijverweg Bloemendaal Apartments / vanOmmeren-architecten

December 14, 2019 Daniel Tapia 0

VanOmmeren-architecten won the tender for the redevelopment of the Vijverkerk plot (Bloemendaal, NL) commissioned by Wibaut. A design for a three-story dwelling building was proposed. In close collaboration with the neighborhood and the client, integrated design for 8 luxury apartments is made. The relationship between inside and outside of the dwelling is directly inspired by the typology of villas in the neighborhood. These houses are typically accessed from the side of the building, while parking is behind. Therefore the street façade is representative, free of parking while remaining a green character. The ground floor dwellings offer a garden. Dwellings on the first floor accommodate a loggia, and the top floor dwellings offer a roof terrace. This composition diminishes volume when gaining height, while opening up space for urban green.
