The Equalizer / Delution Architect

April 24, 2017 Cristobal Rojas 0

The Equalizer is a metaphorical architectural concept of a rhythm in activity in our lives. Rhythm becomes a key word for Architect in designing building that have 3 main functions that are Production House, Music Studio, and Ballet Studio. The Architect tried to find the red thread from those three activities and finally obtained the ‘Rhytm’ word which is implemented to the Equalizer Shape as a representation of that rhytm. The up-and-down of an equalizer is defined as a rhytm that is not separated from art activities such as film, music, and ballet dance. This shape makes it look like this building has a Rhythm like the activities it carries.

The plot is located at the interface between two very different urban logics: on one side, a modern district made up of wide public spaces and large-sized buildings, on the other, the historical town-centre consisting of smaller slate-roof buildings. One of the project’s challenges is to articulate the traditional city and the modern city scales, using both the organisation of its volumes and the layout of its functions.

The middle part of the Sørenga pier has a new park area that extends into a beach. Around the whole pier a new harbour promenade culminates and extends into a wooden floating jetty with diving boards a 50-metre pool with lanes, and a 200 sq metre seawater pool. The beach and sea water pool is exposed to the fjord and has a wide view out to the Hovedøya island and over the city centre, with the new Barcode area and the Oslo Opera house. The new areas offer opportunities for water related activities in summer and is in use as a recreational area throughout the year. The 50-metre sea pool allows for training and competitions, and there is a diving tower, seating and open-air showers. The floating structure and all elements are covered with a timber decking, a materiality that binds the jetty and harbour promenade together.

Jean Moulin High School / Duncan Lewis Scape Architecture

The city of Revin is nestled in the meanders of the river Meuse, surrounded by forest, steep hills and gentle slopes. The Cite Scolaire Jean Moulin was built at the dawn of the 60s, it was designed in an orthogonal configuration of three levels, in line with the Modern style, in the era of the rationalist. Half a century later time has taken its toll and the aging of both building and equipment has made its reconstruction necessary. Especially since teaching methods and technology have progressed considerably, and the “wonder” material asbestos has been proven to cause harm. On July 14th 2010 a violent gust of wind removed the roof of Jean Moulin secondary school, a few months later 50cm of snow fell in a few hours. In 2007, the region launched a competition for the redevelopment of the school.
