House 14A / pihlmann architects

May 3, 2024 Paula Pintos 0

Embodying a non-hierarchical collage of traces from changing times, House14a reflects the ongoing narrative of its evolution. Rather than presenting itself as a completed work, it embraces its role as a phase within an ongoing process. Each element, whether rough or refined, old or new, is equally valued, and gains relevance through processing, assembly, and the possibility of continuous adaptation.

In the highest condominium in the city of Birigui, in a portion on the lowest level, with an active level we contemplate the beautiful skyline of the city of Araçatuba. And so we implemented a “Glass Box”. On a plot of 308m² and its triangular design, we chose to favor its main facade to the north, and its isolated location to encourage contemplation of the horizon.

In the quiet and secluded Hwam-dong alley, which is reached by strolling through the small alleys in front of the U.S. military base in Yongsan, the red brick facade hides quietly like a mask. The red brick façade is a relic of the Japanese colonial era, and the wooden structures that have stood the test of time greeted us through the musty smell of dust. *Jalsan-gaok: A building built by Japanese people in the Japanese style when Japan forcibly occupied Korea.

Café goodly / MTT

Tranquil and profound abundance, ‘goodly’. Café goodly, situated at the eastern end of Bukhansan, was originally a house that had been built long ago and remained vacant for a considerable time. When we first arrived at the site, nestled at the edge of a village filled with tightly packed old houses, the narrow village lanes felt stifling. However, upon reaching the site and surveying the surroundings, the panoramic view was refreshingly cool and expansive. The edge of the village also marked the beginning of hiking trails, generally quiet and serene due to sparse human presence, contributing to a sense of tranquility and comfort. Therefore, goodly has become known to locals as a “hidden gem” that they want to keep to themselves.
