This house was a general set of one bedroom with one living room. With 43 square meters, this house was divided into separated bedroom, living room, kitchen room, and bathroom by three partition walls. Problems in the bathroom were especially serious with dark and narrow space. The damp situation of shower area extended to all floor of the bathroom.
The project of TLV House represents the crowning achievement of a successful international collaboration between an Israeli client and project manager, an Arab Israeli contractor, a Russian Israeli engineer, and a South African architect. Designed and developed by Metropole Architects in Durban, South Africa, the logistical challenge posed by international work was effectively managed by means of intermittent site visits, regular video conference calls and a remotely controlled webcam mounted on site which provided a virtual ‘man on the ground’ and enabled the architects to monitor progress on site at all times from South Africa.

This project is the result of a participatory process carried out with our clients, whom we worked with from choosing the plot to completing the execution of the house. The clients are a couple that wanted to build a house in Carilo, a quiet place surrounded by forest and beach. The needs of our clients involved some challenges: on one hand, they wanted a house with a strong imprint, elevated from the ground, with geometries marked by unevenness, but at the same time a comfortable and functional house with optimized living environments for their day to day life. On the other hand, it needed to function as a home for the two of them during the year, while being able to host the visit of their large family during the summer.
